Mike MignolaMike Mignola was born on September 16, 1960 and grew up in Oakland. As a child he was facinated with the paranormal and even read Dracula at age 13 introducing him to Victorian folklore. In 1982, he moved to New York and started started working for Marvel Comics, first as an inker and then as an artist on Rocket Raccoon, Alpha Flight, and The Hulk. By the late 80s he had begun to develop his signature style and moved onto other projects like Cosmic Odyssey and Gotham by Gaslight for DC Comics, and other less known projects for Marvel. In 1993 Mike moved to Dark Horse comics and created the Hellboy series, and while the first story was co-written with John Byrne, Mike has continued writing the series himself ever since. There are, at this moment, 13 collections in the Hellboy series, several spin-offs such as Lobster Johnson, Witchfinder, BPRD (a personal favorite of mine) and Abe Sapien, 3 anthologies, several novels, two animated films and two live action films. Hellboy has earned numerous awards and has been published in many countries. Mike was also a production designer on the Disney film Atlantis: The Lost Empire and was visual consultant to director on Hellboy film adaptations. He now lives somewhere in Southern California with his wife and daughter.
